Everything you need to know about the Honor Magic V
Today we got to see the Honor Magic V. If you watched my previous video about the Honor fold rumours, I had said that there is a big gap in the market which the brand could be filling. So here’s everything that you need to know about the Honor Magic V.
Honor Magic V
Displays
The presentation began with a concentration on the outer display of the device. The first cool thing to see was the dropping off the phone. I was really surprised to see that. The outer display on the Magic V is a 21:9 aspect ratio 6.45 inch display. The display has a 120 Hz refresh rate. And has 1000 minutes of brightness. The inner display is a 90 Hz. 7.9 inch display with an aspect ratio of 10:9. The display has a lower brightness of 800 nits. Now as far as the displays were concerned, a funny thing to notice was that the outer display was compared to an iPhone 13 Pro Max, while the inner display was compared to an iPad mini. A funny comparison, but I understand where they were coming from.
Hinge and Build
Now, like I mentioned, the phone was dropped and, well, nothing happened to it. So that was good to see. When unfolded, The inner display adopts in new generation Magnetron Spotter Optical Nano film. Whatever the hell that means! The idea seems to be that the display will showss lesser fingerprints and has a lesser reflection of what’s in front of it. So if your finger is over it or something like that, it won’t look as bad. The hinge is a feat of engineering like all these hinges with 213 moving parts with alloys of titanium, some bits of carbon fibre and a whole lot more.
Honor claims that there is almost no gap when the device is closed. Another cool thing here is that this is the thinnest foldable where when it is folded down. It is 14.3 millimetres thin and unfolded. It is 6.7 millimetres thin. The hinge has been tested for the amount of times it can be folded, and Honor claims that it can be folded 50 times a day for 10 years.
The device will be available in three colours, space silver, black and burnt orange leather.
Power and Battery
Now as far as power goes to Honor Magic, V will come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, which has a whole lot of optimization for this year, 12 GB of Ram Magic UI 6.0 and a 4750 mAh battery with 66W charging which can charge your battery up to 50% in 15 minutes. There’s also dual stereo speakers for an immersive media experience.
Cameras
Now as far as the cameras go, we’ve got a triple 50 mega pixel camera setup with a TOF sensor As well as 42 mega pixel cameras on the front on the inner display as well as the outer display.
Could this be a win for Honor?
With the Honor Magic V, the smartphone company seems to be making some serious strides into the foldable space. Based on the presentation, the brand seems to have thought about everything UX optimizations, accessories for the device and so much more. While this was a China only release, there’s a lot to be seen and known about the device, which I can only know when I have the device in my hands. There is no news yet about Google services, and there’s definitely no news about global availability. As far as pricing goes, owner seems to be keeping it competitive with the pricing at 9999 Chinese yuan and 10,999 Chinese yuan for the 256GB and 512GB variants.
I’ve said this before. There’s a huge opportunity here for Honor to capitalise on. While we have seen a lot of devices from Honor last year, we haven’t seen them in our markets yet. I do like the Honor Magic V, but based on recent releases I’m not sure if it will make it to our side of the world. What do you think about the device? Let me know in the comments below.
